l live in the UK & l buy really delicious japanese rice crackers which r gluten free for snacks. Otherwise, choose oat breads or there r really tasty German breads which use a variety of seeds & do not use wheat.

If u can not eat wheat, u must also be careful to choose the correct breakfast cereal (oat-based like porrige r best). And believe it or not, wheat is sometimes used as a thickener in products like yoghurts, so check the labels carefully.

Quite a lot to remember & a bit of a pain not to be able to eat things u like, but on the plus side, wheat causes weight gain & water retention, so provided u also steer clear of sugar, u should have a lovely trim body!

Bon appetit!

Depends on where you live? If in Australia, try a Health Food Shop. There are different brands that make Gluten free bread. Some supermarkets sell it also. Ask one of the assistants in the Bakery section.
It is not only bread that contains wheat. Pasta is another problem.
Good Luck!

If you go to your local supermarket and have a look int the health food isle. There will be a section where they cater for people who are allergic to wheat and gluten etc etc . l know myself that you can buy the wheat and gluten free bread but they are alot expensive then normal brands. If you are a celiac then you can get help with recipes on different sites.Good luck.

Where do u live?

In the US, l like the Whole Foods Gluten-Free Bakehouse breads, but those r only available at Whole Foods. They're also kind of pricey.

My husband enjoys a few breads made by FoodForLife: Brown Rice, Millet, China Black Rice, Bhutanese Red Rice. They require toasting.

l often bake my own gluten-free bread. You can find loads of cookbooks & recipes online, then tweak those recipes until u get a product u like. l use a variation on Bob is Red Mill is Walrus bread.

For a mix, l like Chebe bread. It is a mix for pao de queijo, a Brazilian cheese roll. Very tasty & popular with my wheat-eating friends.

For a nice flatbread, try making socca. It is sort of like a broiled chickpea crepe. We top it with garlic & parmesan for an evening treat.

If u can not tolerate wheat it does not necessarily mean u can not tolerate gluten, but if u can not tolerate gluten, it is more than just wheat u need to avoid.

All these gluten free, rice breads r gross, save ur money! Japanese rice crackers r nice, ( l like the tamari ones the best) but the others r like eating cardboard.

Spelt is a cousin of wheat, but is much easier to tolerate. It is higher in protein & very high in vitamins & minerals, so it wins all round. It does contain gluten, more than wheat actually, but this is water soluable so it is easy to digest. You do not get that bloated feeling u can with wheat things.

Some bakeries now make spelt bread or rolls, & some health food shops also sell it. Asda do bread rolls, & Tesco melba toast in special diet section. Sainsbury is sell the flour in large stores, as do Tesco, as do Holland & Barrett & other health food stores.

Doves Farm do a great organic spelt flour that now also comes in 'white' to make biscuits & cakes etc.

l cook with it all the time. It makes great bread, like wholemeal, rises very quickly though, because of its high gluten content. Some breadmakers can take it but not all, check first if you're going to buy one. l bake the old fashioned way! My first loaf was a disaster, but now l am an expert.

You will also need to add a tiny bit more water to recipes, usually no more than a desert spoon though.

As it is plain flour add teaspoon of baking powder for every for every 8ozs of flour to make it self-rising flour.

Proper German Rye bread does not contain wheat, though beware, as may do. It is not really bread as we know it though, it is nutty & heavy.

Oats can also be ground down in a processor to make flour, & as they contain gluten make nice pastries, biscuits etc. Corn bread, pasta & crackers r ok too. & of course there r rice noodles in a variety of forms.

I've experimented with many things, & this is the best advice l can give you-do not assume wheat free anything especially bread is going to be even close to the wheat variety, with the exception of spelt.

Good luck, happy baking. If at first u do not succeed…
