l know allergies to cats can be caused by either their hair or their saliva. l would like to get a spyhnx (hairless) cat but l do not know if i'm allergic to hair or saliva. how can l tell if i'm allergic to cat hair or saliva? should l see my doctor? i'm probably gonna get the cat anyway :)

get him to spit in your mouth one day and then eat some it is hair another. if you react to one and not the other then you will know.mmm cat lol jk

People who are allergic to animals are always allergic to animal dander (the microscopic flakes of dried saliva on skin which causes allergy.) and not the fur. So, in your case, you are allergic to a cat is dander - saliva. A spyhnx cat would do well because they do have fine hairs and their saliva would not stick on their fur that much. However, you might still be allergic because the cat will still be grooming himself with his saliva.

you're allergic to the hair because of the saliva they use when they lick themselves. If they have short hair then they do not lick themselves and you do not havethe problem.

dont do any sort of experiments because it can be you are really allergic, do not go to a doctor go to something called an allergist they will do blood work as well as an accurate allergy test involving samples of various things and it will tell you how allergic you are to it

You can see an allergist if you'd like, but u should know that if you're allergic to one (either hair or saliva), then u will be allergic to the other.

This is because the allergen that causes a reaction to cats or dogs is contained in both the animal is hair & saliva. Most people only associate their animal allergy with hair, but the same immunoreactive agent is present in saliva, making it virtually impossible to avoid an allergic response if the animal lives with u or even just comes into contact with u briefly.

If you're having continued or severe allergic reactions, or if u just want to be skin tested for other allergens (not a bad idea in ur case), then ask to see a good allergy/immunology specialist.
